Jacob Greenwood won the District 3 500 freestyle.

NEW KINGSTOWN — In the final session of the District 3 Swimming Championships on Saturday at Cumberland Valley, the Chambersburg boys put on a show.

Jacob Greenwood swam to first place in the Class 3A 500 freestyle, and one event later Avery Barley touched the wall first in the 100 backstroke.

Greenwood posted a time of 4:31.56, which broke the previous District 3 mark of 3:41.78, set by Michael Swanson of McCaskey in 2003.

Avery Barley captured 1st place in the District 3 100 backstroke.

Barley turned in a time of 51.01, which was not as fast as his seed time, but good enough to hold off the field and win the event for the second-straight year. Trojan teammate C.J. Pong placed third in the event in 51.79.

Chambersburg’s 400 freestyle relay team of Pong, Aiden McMillen, Barley and Greenwood) posted a time of 3:13.51 to place fourth. The time was more than 5 seconds better than the team’s seed time.

The other point scorers for the Trojans, who placed fifth in the team standings, were Michael Johnson (11th breaststroke, 1:01.31) and Colby Estep (500 free, 4:52.25).

In girls 3A, Waynesboro’s Lauren Wetzel placed eighth in the 100 backstroke in 59.23, while Liz Terrazas of Chambersburg was 23rd.
