The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers flew to a 24-7 halftime cushion and defeated New Life Christian 45-33 Tuesday in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference quarterfinal girls basketball game.
The No. 3 seed Blazers (16-8) will play in the MDCC semifinals Friday at 3:30 p.m. against second-seeded Heritage Academy, which rolled over Grace Academy 47-12. The game will be played in Martinsburg, W.Va.
“Our defense was tenacious all over the court,” CVCS coach Dylan Ward said. “I think we did a great job making them uncomfortable, and we looked to attack when we could. It was a great team win.”
With freshman Amber Yanosik scoring eight points, the Blazers sprinted to a 13-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. After taking the 17-point halftime advantage, the Blazers built the margin to 20 points in the third quarter before New Life staged a mini comeback

but could get only within 10 points in the final frame.
Yanosik and freshman Laurel Reitz led the Blazers in scoring with 13 points each. Kyleigh Teal added seven points, Jalen Moats six, Mollee Stake three, Keagan Yarboro two and Mackenzie Sites one.
“We have a lot to look forward to, not only this weekend but in our future as well,” Ward said. “I think if we keep playing team basketball, we will have tremendous success.”
For New Life, Claire Socash scored 19 points.
The Blazers handed Heritage two of its three league losses this season. In other MDCC quarterfinal games Tuesday, top-seeded Calvary defeated No. 8 Faith 34-25 and No. 4 Shalom topped No. 5 Broadfording 43-34. Calvary will play Shalom on Friday.
