Chbg roundup 2/15: Wrestling sectionals open, 2 track records set

Section III Tournament
The District 3 Section III for Class 3A tournament began Friday at Mechanicsburg, with only the preliminary round and a very brief consolation round.

The tournament was lengthened to two days so that complete wrestlebacks are included, but all the championship bracket from quarterfinals on will not begin until 10 a.m. Saturday.

Chambersburg had six wrestlers compete in the first round and went 3-3.

Anthony Colangelo (120) and Kelby Mixell (132) both had pins and Cole Grove (126) won by decision. April Rump (106), Zae Kirk (182) and Joey Fuller (285) were knocked into the consolation bracket.

Shippensburg’s Tristyn Keefer (106) scored a pin, Dylan Ramsey (126) had an 8-1 decision and teammate Ayden Reed (160) won 6-2, as the Hounds went 3-4.

Greencastle-Antrim had only three wrestlers compete, and all were defeated.

State College Invitational
Chambersburg took a team to the State College event Thursday and came home with a pair of school records.

The boys 4 x 200 relay team placed first in a record time of 1:31.46. The team included Karter Jones, Tyeshawn Worrell, Nate Cooper and Diontae Barbour.

Shanelle Burrowes scored the other record by winning the girls 200 in 25.97.

Also for the boys, Brock Harmon won the shot put with a heave of 50-11.75, Worrell was fourth in the 200 in 22.76, Trentin Overcash placed fourth in the mile in 4:37.78 and Kisla Hilaire was sixth in the high jump at 5-1.

Burrowes placed in two other events for the girls — third in the long jump (16-11) and sixth in the high jump (4-7).

Also for the girls, the shot put team of Madison Yost, Madison Ogden and Kyleah Leisher took second (30-8.5), fourth (29-2.5) and seventh (26-4.75), respectively.

The Trojan indoor track team has set or tied at least six school records this winter. Qualifiers for the indoor state meet will be released Sunday.
