Williamsburg 58 Forbes Road 47

Waterfall, Pa. – Forbes Road (9-12) closed out their regular season at home versus Williamsburg, dropping a 58-47 decision.  Williamsburg put three players in double figures en route to the win.  Cardinal coach Pete Hall commented, “It was a tough bounce back after last night, but we competed very well on empty tanks.  We showed improvement after our struggles last night, and we’ll keep working on ironing things out before the first round on Tuesday.”  Logan Deshong paced the Cardinals with 16 points, and Justin Garman tacked on 10.  Matt Clippinger led the Cardinals with nine rebounds.  Forbes Road finishes the regular season at 9-12.  The Cardinals are tentatively scheduled to travel to Southern Fulton to open the District V 1A playoffs on Tuesday.  Seeds and game times will be confirmed this weekend. Tussey Mt. 78 Fannett Metal 69

Saxton, Pa. – Fannett Metal (8-14, 3-11 ICC) rounded out the regular season with a 78 to 69 league loss to Tussey Mt. The leading scorer for the Tigers was Timber Brookens with 28. The leading scorer for Tussey was Chad Morningstar with 22 points. JV – TM 63 FM 46. Fannett Metal is tentatively scheduled to travel to Shanksville in the first round of the District V playoffs on Tuesday.

Southern Fulton 56 McConnellsburg 28

Warfordsburg, Pa. – Southern Fulton (15-7, 10-4 ICC) hosted county and league rival McConnellsburg (6-14, 4-10 ICC) and downed the Spartans 56 to 28. The loss dashed the Spartans host to mark the District V playoffs. Drew Gordon led the Indians with 20 pts, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 7 steals. Jessie Covalt added 11 points and 7 rebounds. Lindsey Hollenshead contributed 9 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists in the win. Sami Hensley led the Spartans with 9 points. McConnellsburg Coach Dot Doyle commented, “We had 2 quarters in us, but we just had no gas in the tanks…  The girls played hard.  It was just too much for us today.” Southern Fulton is tentatively scheduled to host Meyersdale on Wednesday in the first round of the Class AA District V playoffs.

Forbes Road girl’s basketball ended their season on a strong note, picking up a pair of wins to finish the regular season. They started the day traveling to Shalom Christian Academy and picking up a non win against the Flames 43 to 34. Hannah Skiles paced the Cardinals with 14 points. Mara Broadwater added 10 points and 12 rebounds. Shelby Harnish chipped in 8 points, including a half court buzzer beater to end the first quarter. SCA was led by Schwartz with 10 points and Rheams and Banfe added 7 points each. No JV. Cardinal Coach Jamie Gelvin commented, “It was a very good competitive game. Our press really hurt them early, but we let them hang around and just couldn’t put them away until very late.  Both teams played hard and made it an enjoyable morning game.”

In the second game of the double header the Cardinals hosted Johnstown Christian Academy and handed JCS a 45 to 35 loss. Hannah Skiles continued with the hot hand and led the Cardinals with 15 points. Madison Hays and Mara Broadwater each contributed 8 points and 11 rebounds each. JCS was led by Lorna Spiegle with 16 points. No JV. Gelvin said, “I was pleased with our effort in the third game in less than 24 hours. We shot the ball well and took care of business. We are a little banged up and have a lot of sickness, but the girls handled it well and really competed. Mara and Madison both really dominated the glass.  We are looking forward to resting up and getting ready for the playoffs next week.” The Cardinals are tentatively scheduled to travel to Berlin on Wednesday in the first round of the District V Class A playoffs.
