Two wrestlers from Chambersburg and one from Shippensburg were awarded No. 1 seeds for the sectional tournaments that begin Friday.
The Trojans, Greyhounds and Greencastle-Antrim compete in the Class 3A Section III tournament at Mechanicsburg. Waynesboro is in the 3A Section IV event at South Western, while James Buchanan wrestles in the 2A Section I at Susquenita.
Wrestling begins Friday with the round of 16, plus a consolation round. Saturday, the action begins at 10 a.m. with quarterfinals, followed by semifinals, consolations and finals.
The top four at each weight advance to the next weekend’s District 3 Championships.
Chambersburg’s Nichter brothers — Tate at 145 pounds and Luke at 170 — each received No. 1 seeds, as did Ship’s Jeffrey Russell at 120.
Luke Nichter received the top seed over two-time defending 2A state champion Edmond Ruth of Susquehanna Township. Should they meet in the final, it is expected to be the highlight of the tournament.
The Trojans also have a pair of No. 2 seeds, Seth Runshaw at 152 and Wyatt Hull at 220, a No. 3 in Spencer Runshaw (138), two fourth seeds in Karl Shindledecker (113) and Carson Mello (160), and two No. 5 seeds in Cole Grove (126) and Guy Lozius (195).
Also for the Hounds, Dylan Ramsey picked up a No. 4 seed at 126.
Waynesboro produced six wrestlers seeded in the top 4 — No. 2 Bodie Rouzer at 113, and fourth seeds Corbyn Fogelsonger (106), Matt McCann (138), Bryan Layman (145), Adam Wertz (152) and Raul Shatzer (220).
The lone top-four seed for James Buchanan, which is sending only three wrestlers to sectionals, is Shaun Reed at 285, who is the No. 4 seed.
