CHAMBERSBURG — It’s already been a long season for the winless Mifflin County Huskies, and Monday night’s game at Chambersburg didn’t help matters.

The Trojans allowed only eight points in the second half and rolled to a 69-29 Mid Penn Commonwealth boys basketball victory at CASHS Field House for their eighth win in the last nine games.

Chambersburg (11-4, 6-3 MPC) had an 8-0 run late in the second quarter to grab a 15-point lead, then went on a 16-0 run in the third period to put it away officially.

“We’re trying to work on being consistent for 32 minutes, so we need to be locked in and focused for longer periods of time,” Trojan coach Shawn Shreffler said. “I was pleased with how we did that in the third quarter.”

Seth Brouse scored the first bucket of the second half on a slick drive to the basket, then scored 10 more points during the 16-0 run to finish with a season-high 15 points.

Shreffler said, “To start that half, they were trapping, and Seth had the ball and looked like he didn’t want to go. I think I yelled, ‘Attack’ or ‘Go’ or something and he went to the rim and scored, and then he was more aggressive.”

With the Huskies (0-12, 0-9 MPC) having nobody over 6-foot-2, Chambersburg’s front line had their way. Tyler Collier had four rebound baskets, a steal and a 3-pointer on his way to 19 points, and Ty Holsopple had 8 points.

Max Doctor tallied 6 of his 10 points in the final period, including a sweet baseline move for a dunk.

Mifflin County opened the game in a four-corners offense, opened up a few driving lanes, and scored 14 points in the first period.

But the Trojans clamped down after that, giving up only five baskets (on 5-for-25 shooting) in the final three quarters.

“They ran that offense a little last time we played them,” Shreffler said, “but they stayed in it longer this time because they were scoring. But I was confident the way we play our man-to-man, and we played at a better intensity level on the defensive end of the floor in the second half.”

NOTES: Connor Cherry led the Huskies with 9 points … The Trojans shot 27-for-49 from the field (55%) … Of Chambersburg’s 27 baskets, four were 3-pointers and 20 were made from near the rim.
