Cumberland Valley 52, Chambersburg 47: The Trojans led by 13 points twice in the third quarter, but their offense deserted them down the stretch and the Eagles used a 16-5 advantage in the fourth quarter to rally for a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory Tuesday night.

Chambersburg had a four-game win streak stopped and falls to 8-4 (4-3 MPC). Cumberland Valley is 10-1 (6-1 MPC) and tied for first place with Central Dauphin.

A bucket by Terell Williams made it 35-23 and a steal and layup by Ethan Shreffler put the score at 38-25 in Chambersburg’s favor. But CV made two consecutive threes and got it back to within 42-36 after three periods.

All the Trojans could muster on offense in the final eight minutes were three foul shots (out of 7 attempts) and a Seth Brouse basket with 13 seconds left.

Leading 43-36 with 5:19 left, Chambersburg gave up a basket, then a 3-pointer by Micah Wolf, had a turnover, and the Eagles’ Dylan Buzalka hit a three to give his team a 44-43 lead. A drive by Buzalka made it 46-43 with 3:10 left.

After the Trojans went 1-for-3 on free throws, CV’s Ben Drury hit his first free throw, and missed the second, but the Eagles got the rebound and Drury scored to give his team a 49-44 edge with less than a minute left.

Williams led Chambersburg with 12 points and Collier had 10. For CV, Ty Banach scored 18 and Buzalka had 17.

Cumberland Valley 48, Chambersburg 28: Six different players sank a 3-point field goal to help unbeaten Cumberland gradually pull away from the Trojans in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game Tuesday night at CASHS Field House.

The Eagles (9-0, 7-0 MPC) led 15-9 after one period and 24-14 at halftime before breaking it open in the third period with an 18-6 bulge.

For Chambersburg (2-9, 1-6 MPC), Sydney Schmus scored a career-high 9 points, while Bre’ya Clopper added 7.

For CV, Julie Jekot and Sam Murphy each scored 9 points.

GIRLS SWIMMING
Chambersburg 95, Boiling Springs 85: The Trojans picked up their first win of the season, edging the Bubblers by 10 points in a non-league meet Tuesday.

“It was truly a team victory, because every girl was needed in order to come away with the win,” Chambersburg coach Donnie Miller said. “Putting the team ahead of their own interests, many girls competed in events they’re not accustomed to, or were asked to swim in races much closer to one another in the meet, so they had less recovery time.”

Emma Grove won the 200 IM in 2:29.46, was on two winning relays and set four personal best times. Emily Stroble (200 in 2:12.0, 500 free in 5:53.72), Maddie Kinton (50 in 25.98, 100 free in 57.91) and Liv Terrazas (butterfly in 1:05.46, backstroke in 1:03.73) each won twice and were on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relay teams.

Miller said, “Bree Kratz picked up major points in the IM and butterfly, and Megan Brandt, Audrey Kaugh and Jess Yo all helped us with team points, too.”

The Trojans (1-4) won 9 of the 12 events.

Chambersburg 117, Boiling Springs 69: The Trojans’ Jacob Greenwood won the 200 and 500 freestyle races, setting a pool record in each, to lead Chambersburg over the Bubblers in a non-league meet Tuesday.

Greenwood paced the Trojans by taking the 200 free in 1:46.51 and the 500 free in 4:44.94, both record times for the Boiling Springs pool.

Also for Chambersburg, C. J. Pong captured the 200 IM (1:59.48) and butterfly (52.46), while Aidan McMillen was also a double winner, taking the 50 free in 23.62 and the 100 free in 51.80.

Avery Barley was the backstroke winner in 54.72 and Michael Johnson won the breaststroke in 1:06.33, as the Trojans were first in every event except diving.

Chambersburg (5-0) is tuning up for a huge meet at Cumberland Valley on Thursday.
