James Buchanan hands Trojans girls 41-34 defeat

MERCERSBURG — In the first game of the season, Chambersburg prevailed in two overtimes against James Buchanan.

On Monday, the girls basketball teams met again, this time at JB, and the Rockets captured a 41-34 non-league victory.

James Buchanan (4-4) broke on top by a 17-10 score after one quarter, fueled by 10 points from Cass Martin, who hurt the Trojans on the boards in their first meeting, and five from Maggie Strawoet.

Chambersburg (2-8) outscored the Rockets 10-5 in the third period to get within three points, as Madi Flythe (5) and Erin Pattillo (4) split 9 points.

But JB pulled away again in the final quarter, helped by making 5 of 7 free throws. Martin finished with 18 points and Strawoet had 9.

For the Trojans, Kiki Walker totaled a career-high 9 points, followed by Flythe (8) and Pattillo (7). Pattillo had missed the last three games due to injury.
