JB girls basketball hangs on for win

The James Buchanan Lady Rockets withstood a big fourth quarter push by Boiling Springs and hung on for a 55-52 Mid Penn Colonial Division game Tuesday night.

JB (2-3) used a 13-point first half by Cass Martin, who finished with a game-high 22 points and 14 rebounds, to build a 29-16 halftime lead. Maggie Strawoet, who finished with 15 points, came through with 6 third quarter points to help increase the lead to 41-24.

The Lady Rockets hit just enough free throws (6 of 13) in the fourth quarter to hold off Boiling Springs which put up 28 points in the final quarter.

“We blew a big lead and had to battle in the fourth quarter to pull it out,” JB coach Jenny Lauthers said. “We are figuring out how to finish.”
