MERCERSBURG — The Chambersburg indoor track & field team competed at the Mercersburg Academy Invitational on Friday and brought home four first-place finishes, five seconds and a pair of thirds.
In addition, two school records were set and another was tied.
“This was probably our best season-opening meet in the history of the program,” Trojan boys coach Bob Walker said. “I think 2019 should be an exciting year.”
For the boys, Tyeshawn Worrell placed first in the 55-meter dash in a school record time of 6.57. He also anchored the winning team in the 4×200 relay, which also included Nate Cooper, Diontae Barbour and Karter Jones, to a school record time of 1:35.0.
Shanelle Burrowes had a big day for the girls, taking first in the 200 in 27.54, placing second in the long jump (16-3.75) and tying a school record by leaping 5-0 to take fourth in the high jump.
The other first-place winner was Brock Harmon, taking the shot put with a toss of 50-0.
Other runners-up included Kiera Whitehead (girls 800, 2:40.15), Karter Jones (boys 200, 24.09), Shane Ambrose (boys pole vault, 10-8), and the team of Ambrose, Joey Maun, Kisla Hiliare and Jonathan Jeffrey in the 4×200 (1:43.18).
Jones also took third in the 55 (6.92) and Barbour was third in the 200 in 24.37.
