Taryn Parks earns trip to nationals

THE BRONX, N.Y. — Greencastle-Antrim junior runner Taryn Parks made in 3-for-3 in qualifying for the Foot Locker National Championship race in cross country.

On Saturday, on the historic Van Cortlandt Park course in The Bronx, N.Y., Parks finished seventh in the Foot Locker Northeast Regional race and earned advancement to the Foot Locker Nationals at San Diego’s Balboa Park on Dec. 8.

It was the third straight season that Parks finished high enough at regionals to qualify for the national race.

Saturday, Parks finished the 5K race in 18:11.2. The winner, Sydney Masciarelli of Northbridge, Mass., won in 17:12.6, while Northern York’s Marlee Starliper was second in 17:17.5.

In the boys race, Chambersburg senior Trentin Overcash placed 69th in a time of 16:50.4. The winner, Jack Stanley of Mendham, N.J., finished in 15:30.2.
