WEST LAWN — Chambersburg’s girls volleyball season was ended Saturday afternoon by Wilson in three competitive games.

The No. 5 seed Bulldogs won sets of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-23 to eliminate the No. 12 Trojans in a first-round match of the District 3 Class 4A tournament. Wilson will play Cumberland Valley in Tuesday’s quarterfinal round.

“It was a well-played match by both teams,” Chambersburg coach Ty Frelin said. “There were not a lot of big leads by either team and we battled point for point. But here were just a few times in different stages of the match when they got a couple key of points, and it just seemed like we were playing from behind most of the way.”

For the Trojans, the top statistical leaders included: Ally Davis (8 digs, 5 kills); Ansley Runk (10 service points, 9 assists); Taylor Myers (16 digs, 10 points), Marlee Wrights (6 kills, 2 blocks); Robyn Stepler (9 assists) and Raelyn Johnson (7 digs).

Frelin said, “There were not a lot of unforced errors by either team; they just made a few more plays than we did. We were a little disappointed, but it turned out about the same as when we played them earlier (a 3-1 defeat).”

Chambersburg finished the season with an 11-8 record.

“We had some ups and downs, and we didn’t avoid the injury bug,” Frelin said. “We started the year without Ashley Adams, then we lost Taylor Myers and Kristen Johnson for spells, too. It just seemed like we had no long stretches with everybody available to work with, and we were a little inconsistent in our play.”
