Volleyball – Indians Nip Spartans in DV Quarterfinal

Berlin, Pa. – Two very familiar foes traveled to Somerset County to square off in the District V Quarterfinal. The Indians of Southern Fulton (13-7) edged McConnellsburg (10-7) 3 to 2. (SF 26-24, M 25-22, SF 25-23, M 25-18, SF 15-7). Southern Fulton was led by Drew Gordon’s 7 kills, 4 blocks, 12service points, and 9 assists. Jessie Covalt added 5 kills, 15 service points and 8 aces. Lindsey Hollenshead had 8 kills and 7 digs, Marita Murray added 4 kills, 10 service points, and 4 aces, while Lexi Rhoades contributed with 5 digs.Indian Coach Julie Dickerhoff commented, “The team did not quit fighting tonight, we seemed to play from behind each game tonight. Our serving definitely is what kept us in the match as well as our leaders stepping up. ”

For the Spartans Katelyn Truax dominated with 22 kills, 11 digs and 3 blocks. Aryanna Lupey added a respectable 12 kills and 8 digs. Lexi Lupey had 24 service points, 29 assists and 6 digs. McConnellsburg Coach Kellee Truax commented, “We moved some players around tonight trying to generate more offense and to also give the Indians a different look than our previous two matchups. We came up a little short, but the girls played their hearts out. ”

Southern Fulton will play top ranked Berlin on Tuesday, October 30th, at 5:00, at a site to be determined.
