The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers wrapped up the regular-season title in the Mason-Dixon Christian Conference by defeating Heritage Academy 4-0 in boys soccer Tuesday.
The game was scoreless at halftime as Heritage goalkeeper Jan Lomahan turned away several golden Blazer scoring chances.
However, just three minutes into the second half, Blazer goalkeeper Jack Gabler sent a kick deep downfield after a saving defensive stop by Caleb Eckert inside the box. Kenneth Hott collected the long pass and delivered the tiebreaking goal. Just three minutes later, Hott directed in a pass from Jimmy Hong to make it 2-0.
Elijah Randolph added a penalty kick at the 58th minute after a Heritage hand ball in the box, and Eli Black completed the scoring when he curled in a shot on an assist by Hong at the 77th minute.
The Blazers (14-4, 10-1 MDCC) outshot Heritage 35-15 and led 4-0 in corners while registering their ninth shutout of the season. Gabler made 15 saves.
“Coming off five games in seven days our weariness was showing,” CVCS coach Stan Hott said. “We are nursing some injuries and working through it. The team is coming together and following their motto: It is not about me; it is about US.”
The Blazers earned a first-round bye in next week’s MDCC playoffs.
