State College 5, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans had some competitive matches, but fell 5-0 to Mid Penn Commonwealth opponent State College on Friday.
Madison Mellinger came the closest to winning a set, falling 6-4 in her second set at No. 2 singles. The No. 1 doubles team of Alexis Parra and Cally Papoutsis fell 6-2, 6-2.
Mercersburg Academy 4, Chambersburg 1: On Saturday, Mellinger won her match at No. 2, but the Blue Storm came out on top in the other four to claim a non-league victory over Chambersburg (5-7).
Mellinger won 6-4, 7-6 over Bentley Anderson. At No. 1, MA’s Coco Sandhu topped Hope Sprecher, 6-4, 6-2, and at No. 3, Caroline Hance was defeated 6-1, 6-2 by Caroline Dillard.
Trojan coach Josh Barwin said, “Not being able to practice this week due to the weather took its toll on us. I’m not happy with two losses, but I like the way we responded against Mercersburg. We need to fine tune our play and be more consistent with our shots. We have one week left, and a lot of important matches.”
