JB looks to rebound vs. Clear Spring, Md.

The best way to get over a good old fashion butt whooping is to forget it and move on.

That’s exactly what the James Buchanan Rockets are hoping happens Friday night when they host the Clear Spring (Md.) Blazers in the 2nd Annual Whitetail Resort Mason-Dixon Cup at 7 p.m.

Last Friday the Rockets (1-3) were handled every way possible in their 54-8 lost at Perryville (Md.).

“We’re trying to forget that game,” JB coach David Miller said. “We didn’t even watch any game film on it. This week all we’ve talked about is bringing the intensity and being aggressive. If we come out and execute we should be OK.”

Execute is not what JB did last week as it turned the ball over 6 times and had just over 100 yards of total offense.

“We’re not going to let last week beat us twice,” Miller said. “We need to put it behind us and move on.”

The Blazers come into the game 2-2 after last week’s 54-27 win over Berkeley Springs (W.Va.). Their other win was 41-0 against Benjamin Franklin (Md.) while their losses are to Brunswick (41-6) and Northern Garrett (32-6).

Against Berkeley Springs, Clear Spring’s running back tandem of Xavier Blair and Dustin Fisher combined for 7 TDs. Blair had scoring runs of 4, 55, 25, 11 while Fisher’s TDs were 5, 9 and 4 yards.

“Clear Spring is a very much improved team,” Miller said. “They have some scrappy players and they’ll come ready to play.”

NOTES: Last year’s first Mason-Dixon Cup meeting was the Rockets only victory.
