BOYS GOLF
MPC championships: Chambersburg finished second as a team and three individuals advanced to the District 3 Tournament at the Mid Penn Conference championships on Monday at Dauphin Highlands.

Central Dauphin’s top four golfers totaled 310 strokes, to the Trojans’ 319, so the Rams will represent the league in the district team event.

For Chambersburg, Grayson Hopple fired an even-par 72 and was the individual runner-up behind CD’s Garrett Engle and his 67.

Trojan coach Mark Yost said, “Grayson was hovering right around par all day. I was impressed that he was able to put up a good round the day after he had another good round.”

In Sunday’s Hershey Invitational at Hershey Country Club East, Hopple shot a 1-under par 70 to help the Trojans capture the team title.

Chambersburg’s Karsen Rush posted a 73 Monday to tie for third place with Devin Smith of Waynesboro. Rush also shot a 72 on Sunday.

The Trojans’ No. 3 was Spencer Rajtik, who shot an 83, tied for 23rd and qualified for districts. Rajtik birdied his final hole to avoid a playoff for the final district berths.

Also for Chambersburg, Owen Reichelderfer shot 91 and Jacob Carlin 104.

Shippensburg’s Adam Maring shot 84 and will be the first alternate for districts, which are Oct. 5-6 at Briarwood in York.

Caleb Reath of James Buchanan shot 86 to tie for 38th and become a qualifier in Class AA for districts.

Also at the Hershey Invitational on Sunday, the Chambersburg girls team placed third. Mary Kate Norcross shot 76, Heather Sanbower 93 and Megan Brandt 95. Rajtik shot 89 and Carlin 90 in the boys event.
