NEWVILLE — The Chambersburg boys cross country team came in third in a crowded field at the 23rd annual Ben Bloser Invitational at Big Spring on Saturday, while the Trojan girls placed sixth in a field of 25 teams.
Chambersburg’s boys were led by Trent Overcash, who ran a fine time of 16:42 to capture fourth place overall.
The Trojans scored 162 points and finished behind Cedar Crest (136 points) and Hempfield (161), and just ahead of Gonzaga, D.C. (163) and Carlisle (165), which came in ranked sixth in the state.
“We had a pretty good day,” Chambersburg coach John Ambrosio said. “We’ve now seen every top team in District except Palmyra, and we’re competing with them. This probably our best invitational result since we won districts in 2011. We’re headed in the right direction.
“Trent had as good a day in an invitational as anyone we’ve had in probably 10 years.”
Justin Maxwell (28th) also earned a medal, and the runners that counted included Orion Kimberly, Brayden Boyd and Nick Monheim.

Olivia Rieck
For the Trojan girls, Keira Whitehead placed 27th to win a medal, while Anna DeGrange, Olivia Reick, Amelya Mauriello and Maddie Kinton were the scoring runners.
Chambersburg coach Chris Monheim said, “It was a very strong field, and this was our best effort of the season. The time gaps were smaller and that was our goal. Whitehead led the way and behind her we had a tight group and we were able to knock off some good teams.”
In the girls A-2A race, Taryn Parks of Greencastle-Antrim posted a time of 18:26 to win the race handily. It was the best time of the day for any girl.
