SHIREMANSTOWN — The Chambersburg girls volleyball team saw its first action of the season Saturday at the Trinity Labor Day Launch Tournament.

The Trojans went 4-2 in the morning pool play, beating West Perry 2-0 (25-11, 26-24) and York Catholic 2-0 (25-19, 25-20), and falling 2-0 to Mechanicsburg (27-25, 25-23).

In the afternoon Gold Division, Chambersburg was defeated 2-0 by York Suburban (25-22, 25-16), Lower Dauphin (25-22, 25-16) and Penns Valley (25-19, 25-22).

Trojan coach Ty Frelin said, “Five of our eight losses came by a total of 11 points. So we were not too far off from having solid day despite having two starters (Ashley Adams, Taylor Myers) out.”

For Chambersburg, Ansley Runk had five aces and 54 digs, Ally Davis made 17 kills and added 28 digs, Robyn Stepler had 72 assists and Marlee Wrights made four blocks.

“It was a chance to get everybody some playing time,” Frelin said. “We’re still trying to figure some things out and we’re excited to get rolling in the regular season.”
