Chambersburg roundup 8/31: Tennis moves to 4-1; Enos Yeager X-C results

CHAMBERSBURG — The Chambersburg cross country teams hosted their annual season opening event, the Enos Yeager Invitational, at the Tim Cook Course on Friday.

Greencastle-Antrim’s Taryn Parks captured the girls title, winning by 42 seconds over Carlisle’s Sabrina Toti. Parks covered the course in 15:31.

On the boys’ side, Carlisle’s Jack Wisner placed first in 12:52. Chambersburg’s Trent Overcash took third in a time of 13:07.

For the Trojan boys, Joe Corwell was 10th in 13:40, followed by Brayden Boyd (11th, 13:45), Orion Kimberly (17th, 14:01), Donovan Hazelton (18th, 14:03), Nick Monheim (19th, 14:06) and Justin Maxwell (20th, 14:08).

Among Franklin County’s other top finishers, Greencastle’s Weber Long took fifth in 13:31, Shippensburg’s Eli Spence was 12th in 13:46 and teammate Hayden Hunt was 16th in 13:58, and Waynesboro’s Ethan Lowman took 21st in 14:11.

For the Chambersburg girls, Kiera Whitehead had the best finish, running a 16:24 to place fourth. Also for the Trojans, Anna DeGrange was 15th (17:06), Allison List was 18th (17:17), Olivia Rieck took 19th (17:24), Amelya Mauriello was 27th (18:03) and Emelia Alleman was 30th (18:20).

Teddi Powell of Shippensburg placed sixth in 16:28, while G-A’s Bella Weaver was ninth (16:52) and Willow Hurley was 12th (17:04).

GIRLS TENNIS
Chambersburg 5, Central Dauphin East 0: The Trojans won their third straight match, all three by a sweep. Friday, it was a win over Mid Penn Commonwealth foe CD East.

“The girls played really well again today,” Chambersburg coach Josh Barwin said. “We need to keep moving forward and ride this momentum into next week.”

Hope Sprecher won a lengthy battle at No. 1 singles, beating Michelle Phan 7-5, 6-3. Also in singles, Madison Mellinger took a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2, and Caroline Hance won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3.

At No. 1 doubles, Alexis Parra and Cally Papoutsis won 6-0, 6-2, while Sarah Guare and Julianne Grove took a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Mellinger and Hance also took the district doubles match, 6-0.
