Greencastle 12U stays alive with late rally to defeat Dillsburg 6-4

Greencastle came from behind scoring four runs in the fifth inning defeating Dillsburg 6-4 to stay alive in the District 14 Little League Tournament at Paradise Field in Thomasville Friday night. Down 4-2 going to the bottom of the fifth Logan Shifflett lead off with a walk, Andrew Kerns singled and JD Wolff reached on a error. Makayla Jerrn hit a sacrifice fly to cut Dillsburg’s lead to 4-3.Greencastle tied it when Parker Funk struck out and the ball got by the catcher, Kerns scored from third and Funk reached first base. Cooper Swam grounded out scoring Wolff to give Greencastle its first lead of the night 5-4. Greencastle then added an insurance run on a wild pitch.
Calvin Grams who relieved in the fifth inning picked up the win. Kerns pitched the first three innings, Garrett Decker came on in the fourth for Greencastle.

Dillsburg went on top 1-0 in the first when Spencer Cunningham lead off with a single and eventually scored on an error. Dillsburg added a run in the second. Kaleb Mackey and Jace Holford had base hits and another error produced a run to put Dillsburg ahead 2-0.

Greencastle tied the game in the second. Consecutive singles by Wolff, Jerin and Ryan Farrow loaded the bases. Cooper Swam drew a bases loaded walk to make it 2-1 and Greencastle tied it on an RBI single by Decker.

Greencastle will play South Middleton who defeated Dallastown 7-0 at Dallastown Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The tournament is now down to four teams with Dallastown and Dillsburg eliminated the four remaining teams are Carlisle (2-0), Northeaster (1-0), Southe Middleton (1-1) and Greencastle (1-1).
NOTE: There will be no broadcast of tomorrow night’s game. If Greencastle wins they will play Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Spring Grove and the game can be heard on Mid Penn Broadcasting.
