Trojan volleyball falls in Dist. 3 quarterfinal

NEW KINGSTOWN — No. 4 seed Central York proved to be too strong for Chambersburg on Monday night and the Panthers took a 3-0 victory in a District 3 Class 3A boys volleyball quarterfinal.

Central York (13-1) took games of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-11.

The Trojans (10-8) will now face Governor Mifflin (14-5) in a consolation match on Wednesday (site and time are TBA). The winner of that match will play Friday for the fifth and final spot in the PIAA Tournament.

“As a team we didn’t play the way we needed to in order to win,” Trojan coach Paul Schlabach said. “We needed our best to defeat a really solid Central York team, and we didn’t have close to what was our best tonight. They deserved that win tonight.”

Chambersburg managed only 19 kills, led by Trey Stepler (6), Will Simmers (5) and Josiah Picard (4). Simmers also had 2 blocks, Picard had 11 digs and Wes Newman added 7.

Schlabach said, “We need to have a short memory and play our best volleyball moving forward if we want our season to continue.”
