Hamburg 5, Chambersburg 4: The Trojans made the long trek to Berks County and suffered a narrow defeat to the Hawks, who scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to erase a 4-2 deficit.
Skylar McLean went the distance for Chambersburg (6-8), allowing 8 hits. The Trojan defense did not commit an error.
Chambersburg scored twice in the first inning, which included an RBI double by Luke Wetzel.
Max Armstrong led the offense by going 3-for-4 with a double. Brady Hughes was 2-for-3 and Austin Kopp had 2 hits in 4 trips. Kopp and Hughes singled in runs and Aaden Newman hit a sacrifice fly.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Chambersburg 3, Mechanicsburg 1: The Trojans won the final two games to hand Mechanicsburg a 3-1 non-league defeat on Friday night. Game scores were 25-19, 24-26, 25-19 and 25-19.
Chambersburg coach Paul Schlabach said, “Trey Stepler might have had his best all-around game of the season, with 15 digs, 13 kills, and a tough serve that kept Mechanicsburg on its heels all night.
“Will Simmers also had a big match with eight kills and four blocks. Simmers made a monumental block of their best hitter in the last portion of game 3 to really seal that game for us and give us a ton of momentum going into game 4.”
Other standouts for the Trojans (8-7) were Josiah Picard (11 kills, 2 aces, 20 digs) and Steve Swain (11 kills).
