The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers picked up a pair of 5-0 victories on back-to-back days this week by handling New Life Christian in Mason-Dixon Christian Conference girls soccer games.

In Monday’s home victory, Marlee Stake scored her first two goals of the season, while Taylor Heck, Ryleigh Timmons and Maddie Eberly each scored one goal. Heck contributed a pair of assists was involved in all the first-half goals as the Blazers (8-2, 7-2 MDCC) took a 3-0 halftime lead.

“I am pleased that despite not scoring until today, Marlee has continued to play hard and contribute from the wing,” CVCS coach Paul Lundy said. “Taylor Heck has been playing very well lately.”

In Tuesday’s game in Frederick, Md., Heck scored early in the second half after a scoreless first half to ignite a four-goal barrage in 11 minutes. Stake, Ryleigh Timmons, Kyleigh Teal and Sarah Vandersleen added goals for the Blazers.

“While we allowed more shots on goal than the night before, we were still able to dominate where it matters: the scoreboard,” Lundy said. “I was pleased that we were able to get goals from five different players, including Sarah Vandersleen’s first career tally. With Sarah’s goal we now have had goals scored by 11 different players this season. I love that diversity and the difficulty it presents opposing defenses. Once again our defense was rock solid.”

The Blazers have held opponents scoreless for nine consecutive halves.
