Big Spring broke open a close game by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to defeat the Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devils 9-0 in a battle for first place in the Colonial Division. AJ Farlling went the distance for the Bulldogs allowing just two hits and striking out six.
Big Spring got the only run they needed in the bottom of the third when Parker Yeakel singled to open the inning, stole second and came around to score from second base on a wild pitch. The Bulldogs stole a run in the bottom of the fifth.With two outs in the inning Farlling reached on an error,Hayden Bridges singled sending Farlling to third, then the Bulldogs scored on a steal of home to take a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, after a lead off single by Brock Piper Tanner Rock got back to back strikeouts, the Bulldogs then scored seven unearned runs on three singles, two walks and two Blue Devils errors before Greencastle was able to get the third out.
Rock went 5 2/3 innings allowing seven runs, only two of which were earned, two walks and six strikeouts.
Brock Piper and Parker Yeakel lead the Bulldogs with two hits each. Tanner Rock and Cade McDowell each had a hit for the Blue Devils.
Greencastle falls to 4-3 on the season (3-2 MPC) while Big Spring improves to 5-4 (4-1 in MPC). The Blue Devils will host James Buchanan on Thursday at 4:15 p.m.
