The James Buchanan Lady Rockets grabbed the lead early and hung on for a 4-3 win over the Big Spring Bulldogs in a Mid Penn Colonial Division softball game Thursday.

JB (2-0) took advantage of 3 Big Spring errors in the first inning to push across 2 runs. Kirsten Nichols knocked in the third run with an RBI double in the third inning and Paige Doyle, who finished with 2 hits and 2 RBI, plated the eventual game-winning run with an RBI single in the sixth.

Lizzie Pittman earned the victory by going 5 1/3 innings and Jenna Mongold notched the save.

“It was a very close Colonial Division game,” JB coach Troy Pittman said. “We just had enough to win. Paige had a nice game hitting and played solid defense (at second).”
