Shippensburg Wrestling

Cole Forrester concluded his Shippensburg wrestling career on the podium, but maybe not as high as he wanted to finish. He finished fourth in the state of Pennsylvania in the Class 3 A 220 pound weight class.

He entered the PIAA tournament unbeaten with hopes of gold.

He major-decisioned John McCarthy of Delaware Valley 12-4 in his first match. He defeated Jake Slinger of Upper Saint Clair 8-6 in the second round to move into the semi-finals of the tournament.

In his semi-final match, he battled Parker McClellan of Altoona into the second round of overtime. Forrester wasn’t able to escape in the first round but McClellan was able to escape late in the round to earn the 4-3 victory and berth in the championship.

Forrester fell to the consolations where he edged District 3 foe Dennis Karas of Exeter Twp. 7-3 to reach the battle for the bronze medal.

Greg Bensley of Pocono Mountain West and Forrester battled to a 4-4 tie into unlimited bonus time before Bensley was able to work his way out and earn the escape and the bronze medal. Cole finished with the second most wins in Shippensburg history and will head to the Air Force Academy to continue his academic and athletic careers.
