Shippensburg basketball

The Greyhounds are making their first trip to the PIAA tournament since the early 1990’s and face a tall task in their opening game.

Not tall as in height, but the ‘Hounds face District 1 champion Penncrest (24-2) on Friday night at Interboro High School in Prospect Park at 7:30 PM.

Shippensburg (16-9) has a decided height advantage on the Lions but will have to contend and slow down one of the top junior guards in the state in Tyler Norwood. The 5’9″ junior averages almost 25 points per game. He teams with senior guard Justin Ross, who has over 30 3-pointers this season.

The Lions, coached by Mike Doyle, beat Bishop Shanahan 5-28 in the District 1 Class 5A final.

Carter Van Scyoc leads the Greyhound, but will need defensive and offensive help from his peers. The Greyhounds also will need to take care of the ball and not force the game.

Shippensburg have the opportunity to gather a first round win and need to avoid the slow start and poor shooting that has plagued them recently.
