Trojan wrestlers finish 12-3; await District 3 pairing

WAYNESBORO — The Chambersburg wrestling team finished its regular season with a hard-fought 42-30 non-league win over Franklin County rival Waynesboro on Saturday afternoon.

The victory leaves the Trojans with a 12-3 record. Chambersburg will qualify for the District 3 Team Championships; the official pairings will be announced Sunday.

With only four bouts to go, the Indians (9-8) pulled to within 28-27 with a forfeit win at 120. But Cole Grove scored an 8-1 decision over one of Waynesboro’s best, Matt McCann, at 126, Seth Runshaw followed with a huge pin at 132 over Laken Rouzer, and Spencer Runshaw put the match away with a 15-0 technical fall at 138.

Wyatt Hull had the other key victory for the Trojans, pinning favored Raul Shatzer at 220 in 2:43. There was no score after one period, but with Hull on top in the second, he turned Shatzer for the fall.

Against Rouzer, Seth Runshaw fell behind 2-0 in the first, but reversed Rouzer to his back for the pin.

Also scoring pins for the Trojans were Tate Nichter (152), Drake Brenize (170) and Luke Nichter (182), while Guy Lozius (195) notched a major decision.

Currently, four Trojans have at least 20 victories — Luke Nichter (27-6), Brenize (25-5), Grove (23-7) and Tate Nichter (22-7). Tate Nichter leads the team with 17 pins.

For Waynesboro, Keegan Lohman (160), David Henke (285) and Corbyn Fogelsonger (106) had pins, and Hunter Jones (113) and Adam Wertz (145) took decisions.
