Shippensburg Girl’s Basketball

Shippensburg Lady Greyhounds extended their winning streak to eight games  as they dropped Boiling Springs 49-43 and rallied from 14 points down to edge Carlisle 56-51 on Saturday night at Carlisle.

Defensively they have been playing fairly well. They have allowed only two teams in that 8-game winning streak to score more than 40 points.  Boiling Springs (43) and Carlisle (51) this weekend on back to back nights on subpar shooting nights for the Greyhounds.

Friday night the Greyhounds blitzed the Bubblers for 22 first quarter points and led 31-19 at the half. They had to withstand a furious fourth quarter rally by the Bubblers to hold on to the win.

Kara Newell led the ‘Hounds with 13 points but got support from Mariah martin who scored 11 and Tori Rumbaugh and Samantha Barmont with 10 points each. Newell added 8 steals and Barmont and Rumbaugh had 8 and 6 rebounds in the win.

On Saturday, the Greyhounds rallied from 14 down in the third quarter to secure the win.

Solid second half shooting helped the Greyhounds erase the deficit. Newell and Martin combined for five 3-point shots in the second half- 3 on back to back possessions late in the third quarter. Rumbaugh tallied 11 of her 13 points in the fourth quarter and all 13 came in the second half.

Martin led all scorers with 20 points while Newell added 17, including six of six at the line. She made four straight in the final minute.

Newell added 5 assists, 5 rebounds and 4 steals for the ‘Hounds. Remy Staver added 5 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Barmont had four assists and 4 rebounds while Martin led the ‘Hounds with 11 rebounds. Shea Morris grabbed five rebounds in limited minutes off the bench.

The Greyhounds host Big Spring Tuesday in battle for first place as  each team is 7-1 in the division.
