Boys Dunks for Drew basketball

CHAMBERSBURG — Greencastle-Antrim hung on through a wild finish Saturday night to upend Chambersburg 44-43 in the finale of the Dunks for Drew showcase at CASHS Field House.

The win avenged a 5-point loss in the Franklin County Tip-Off Tournament by the Blue Devils, and ended the Trojans’ 7-game winning streak.

G-A (11-2) led 42-37 with just under a minute left on a pair of free throws by Jason Freeman. Chambersburg (12-3) missed a foul shot, but Tyler Collier rebounded it and scored, and was fouled. He missed the free throw, but the Trojans got the rebound, and Cade Brindle converted on a layup to bring his team within one point.

The Devils’ Bryan Gembe was fouled and hit both for a 44-41 lead, but Brindle scored on a layup with 6 seconds to make it a one-point game again.

Chambersburg then stole the ball on a scramble on the inbounds play, and Noah Beidel got a hurried shot off at the buzzer, but it did not go down.

Greencastle was led by Ben Freeman (12 points), Ian Gelsinger (11) and Gembe (9). For the Trojans, Collier scored 13, Joel Torres had 11 and Brindle put up 10.

In the first boys game of the evening, Shippensburg raised its record to 11-1 with a 45-25 victory over Mechanicsburg.

Ship and Greencastle meet in a makeup Monday night for first place in the Mid Penn Colonial Division.
