Big Spring had opportunities to put away the Greyhounds but a late fourth quarter push by the ‘Hounds got them within one point at 46-45. A missed Greyhound shot and a final Greyhound turnover finally allowed the Bulldogs to escape with a 46-45 win in Colonial division play.

Big Spring ( 4-0 Colonial, 4-0 overall) had a ten-point lead at 42-32 but intensive pressure from the Greyhounds forced several turnovers and a big three-pointer by Tori Rumbaugh got the Greyhounds within four at 46-42. An old-fashioned three-point play by Kara Newell cut the deficit to one at 46-45.

The fourth quarter push came from Martin and Newell, who had battled foul trouble throughout the contest and solid defense from the Bulldogs.

Martin led all scorers with 16, but tallied 12 in the final half. Newell scored four in the second half and Sammy Barmont tallied all 10 of her points in the second half.

“We can’t win games when we only come out to play in the final two minutes of a game,” said Greyhound coach Andrew Markel. “we only had 18 points at the half and looked sluggish. Big Spring played a good game against us.

Shippensburg falls to 2-1 in the division and 3-3 overall. They have a bye Friday and return to host powerful Commonwealth foe Harrisburg next Wednesday night at 7:30 PM.
