WRESTLING
Chambersburg 34, Mifflin County 33: Drake Brenize at 152 pounds and Luke Nichter at 160 scored pins in the final two bouts of the night Tuesday to enable the Trojans to pull out a 34-33 Mid Penn Commonwealth victory over Mifflin County.
Chambersburg (3-1, 1-1 MPC) trailed 15-0 after 3 matches and 30-16 with 5 bouts remaining.
The Trojans got shutout decisions from Spencer Runshaw (6-0) at 138 and Carson Mello (2-0) at 145. Tate Nichter then moved up a weight and fell 3-0 to Trey Kibe in a battle of high-caliber freshmen to give the Huskies an 11-point margin. But Brenize and Luke Nichter each notched a first-period win to complete the comeback win.
“The wins by Spencer and Carson set us up,” Chambersburg coach Matt Mentzer said. “It was nice knowing that Drake and Luke were there at the end, because we had to have the pins.”
The Trojans also got key pins by Wyatt Hull at 285 and Tyler Smith at 106, and a major decision by Cole Grove at 126.
Mentzer said, “Tyler’s pin was big win for the team, because it was an unknown. He’s a freshman going against a bigger senior, and it was 0-0, but he ran a bar in and turned him over. Hull is dealing with an injury, so his pin was really big, too.”
Chambersburg’s next action is Dec. 29-30 when it hots the 4th annual Trojan Wars tournament, a 40-team event.
