The Chambersburg wrestling team hosted the season-opening Chambersburg Dual Tournament and came away with two victories and the tournament title on Saturday afternoon at CASHS Field House.

The Trojans handled Big Spring 55-13 in the semifinals, then took care of Gettysburg, 43-13 in the final.

In the championship meet, Chambersburg picked up a pair of huge victories to help with the verdict. At 152 pounds, freshman Tate Nichter took on the Warriors’ Dylan Reinert, who was a District 3 fourth-place finisher last year and ranked No. 8 in the state, and handed him a 12-5 defeat.

In the next weight (160), Drake Brenize (No. 9 in the state) gutted out a 1-0 verdict over No. 14 Joe Pecaitis of Gettysburg.

Claiming pins for the Trojans were Cole Grove (126) and Wyatt Hull (285), while Carson Mello (145) earned a major decision.

There were six bouts decided by two points or fewer, and Chambersburg won five of them, by Tyler Smith (106), Will Sharrar (113), Anthony Colangelo (120), Seth Runshaw (132) and Brenize.

Also taking wins were Spencer Runshaw (138) and Luke Nichter (170).

In the victory over Big Spring, the Trojans’ biggest win came at 132 pounds, when Seth Runshaw edged the Bulldogs’ Hunter Gregoris, 5-3.

Chambersburg got pins from Smith, Sharrar, Colangelo, Grove, Spencer Runshaw, Tate Nichter and Hull.

In addition, Mello, Brenize and Luke Nichter earned decisions, with Nichter’s being a major.
