Trojan girls open with 55-21 victory

GREENCASTLE — In the opening game of the Franklin County Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night at Greencastle-Antrim, the Chambersburg girls basketball team made an impressive debut.

The Trojans broke out from the start against Waynesboro and used their advantage in size to roll to a 55-21 victory. Chambersburg will play the winner of tonight’s James Buchanan vs. Greencastle game in the championship game on Saturday at 7 p.m.

“Our three top scorers are all inside players, so we dominated there,” Trojan coach Barry Purvis said.

For Chambersburg, Ashley Adams led with 12 points, Taylor Vrabel had 11 and Ariana Burke added 10. Leah Blount led the Maidens with 6 points.

Purvis said, “We did not make many turnovers and we played good defense. The only bad thing was we made some dumb fouls and they made their shots to keep them in it. Overall, I was pretty pleased with how we played.”

The Trojans raced ahead 13-4 after one quarter, then increased the lead to 29-13 by halftime.
