The best preseason high school wrestling tournament in the country was held over the weekend in Greensboro, N.C. and seven Franklin County wrestlers participated.
Shippensburg’s Cole Forrester fared the best, placing eighth at 220 pounds. Forrester was 4-3 with one pin. He lost 4-0 to Daniel Conley of Missouri in the quarterfinals and 5-0 in the bout for seventh place.
Of the six Chambersburg wrestlers, freshman Tate Nichter (145) had the best record, 3-2. He won his first three matches (8-3, 6-1 and 7-1), but lost in the fourth round and again in his first round of consolations.
Brother Luke Nichter (160), a sophomore, was 2-2, including a 3-2 win over Chris Wright of Central Dauphin in a consolation bout.
Also for Chambersburg, Spencer Runshaw (132) was 1-2, and Cole Grove (132), Drake Brenize (160) and Zae Kirk (170) were each 0-2.
