Rockets hope to build on last week

The James Buchanan Rocket football team showed improvement last week and will look to snap it’s 24-game losing streak Friday night.

James Buchanan (0-2) travels to take on the Fairfield Green Knights for a 7 p.m. scheduled kickoff.

Last week the Rockets looked in line to snap that losing streak with a 26-13 lead over Hanover late in the third quarter, but Hanover ran off 21 unanswered points and went on to a 47-32 victory.

Fairfield (0-1) opened it’s season last week with a 19-13 loss to Marian Catholic. Returning quarterback Darian Mort tossed 2 touchdowns in the loss.

Last season, Mort passed for 1,567 yards (5 TDs) and rushed for 8 TDs. Also, running back Charlie Burnett ran for 1,100 yards and had 12 total TDs.

The Green Knights, who started last season 4-0, but lost their final six games, are coached by former Waynesboro coach Darwin Seiler, who is in his fifth season. Last year, Fairfield defeated the Rockets 57-10.

JB will look to running back Cormac Houpt once again to lead the offensive charge. The junior rushed for 304 yard and 5 TDs last week. For the season he has 441 yards.
