Blue Devil boys soccer opens season with win over James Buchanan

DSC_0104Senior Brandon Stuhler scored three times as the Greencastle-Antrim boys soccer team opened up the 2017 season with a 7-1 victory over James Buchanan in Mid Penn Colonial Division play.

Greencastle took control of the game early with Stuhler scoring the game’s first goal in just the third minute of play.  The Blue Devils followed that up with three more goals over the next four minutes as Caleb Hurley, Jared Rohrbaugh  and Stuhler all found the back of the JB net.  Stuhler added his third goal of the night in the 19th minute, and Hurley scored his second goal in the 27th minute to wrap up the scoring in the game’s first half.

“It was nice to play the first game tonight,” said Blue Devil head coach Scott Gelsinger.  “We passed the ball around pretty well tonight.  It was good to see them get out and run around.”

Rohrbaugh added the Blue Devils’ seventh goal early in the second half.  The lone Rocket goal came with just 1:01 left on the clock when Bailey Keefer put his team on the scoreboard.

With the win, Greencastle moves to 1-0 on the season while the Rockets fall to 0-4.  The Blue Devils return to action Saturday evening when they travel to Dillsburg to face Northern York in a Mid Penn Conference Colonial Division game.   James Buchanan will host Big Spring on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
