The Waynesboro Indians (0-1 0-0) look to bounce back after a disappointing performance for their week 2 home match up against Lancaster Catholic Crusaders (0-1 0-0).
In last years contest the Crusaders edged out the Indians 24-21. Although the Indians out gained the Crusaders in total yardage, the game was ultimately decided by Lancaster Catholic (4- 21 yards) committing less penalties than Waynesboro (12- 125 yards).
I am a true believer that the biggest improvements a team makes happens between week one and two. Week one never seems to go the way a team plans since they are limited in full contact against other teams, aside from scrimmages.
Waynesboro head coach Steve Myers will look to continue what they did well last week, run the ball. The Indians will rely on another combination of quarterback Isaiah Kershner, fullback Tom Drumstra, and running backs Matt Frampton and Brayden Bibbs as they totaled 253 yards.
What Coach Myers needs to work on for this week is pass protection and the passing game. Waynesboro’s offense line did a great job opening holes for their runners but struggled keep Kersher clean in the pocket.
Kersher only completed one pass which a reflection of him not being able to plant his feet and fire an accurate pass. I would like to see the lineman protect Kersher long enough to stand tall in the pocket and fire accurate passes to receivers Aidan Campbell and Damian Swisher.
If Waynesboro continues running like they did in week one and step up their passing game they will get their first win of the season. Overall, Waynesboro’s defense played well against a strong Red Lion offense, which they need to continue for the rest of the season.
Lancaster Catholic (0-1) v.s Waynesboro (0-1) will kick off on Friday, September 8th at 7:00 PM at Waynesboro Senior High School.
