Jimmy Bell’s clutch hitting propels James Buchanan to district semifinal

Jimmy Bell drove in four runs on two hits to lead James Buchanan past Berks Catholic 10-8 on Monday. Bell hit a three-run homer to left field in the fifth inning and hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, scoring one.

The Rockets didn’t take the lead until later in the game. The game was tied at eight in the bottom of the sixth when Drew Crouse singled, scoring two runs.

James Buchanan jumped into the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Hayden Sanchez singled, scoring one run, and Bell homered to left field, scoring three runs.

Drew Crouse tossed one and one-third innings of no-run ball for James Buchanan in relief. The righty surrendered two hits, striking out one and walking two.

James Buchanan collected 11 hits in the game. Trey Daugherty, Bryson Bennett, Sanchez, Parker Summers, and Bell each collected two hits for James Buchanan Varsity Rockets. Sanchez stole two bases. James Buchanan Varsity Rockets ran wild on the base paths, collecting four stolen bases for the game. The Rockets turned one double play in the game.

The Rockets will host a semifinal game on Thursday at 4:30 against No. 8 Elco (13-9),
