Southern Fulton (18-4, 8-0) scored nine runs in the fourth inning, which helped them to easily defeat Meyersdale 16-2 on Tuesday in the quarterfinal round of the PIAA District V playoffs.
The Indians blew the game open in the fourth when Kaiden Schriever singled, scoring two runs; Austin Mann singled, scoring two runs; Ethan Powell grounded out, scoring one run; Paul Hendershot singled, scoring two runs; and Hayden Lawrence singled, scoring two runs.
A single by Jett Burger put Southern Fulton on the board in the bottom of the first inning.
A two-run single by Ethan Powell extended the Indian’s lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning.
A double by Austin Mann, a single by Hunter Ward, and a ground out by Ethan Powell allowed the Indians to extend their lead to 7-0 in the third.
Ethan Mellott earned the win for Southern Fulton. The senior right-handed pitcher allowed four hits and two runs over four innings, striking out six and walking one. Schrack took the loss for Meyersdale. He went two and one-third innings, allowing seven runs on five hits, striking out four and walking six.
Ethan Powell pitched one inning of zero-run ball for Southern Fulton in relief. The righty allowed one hit, striking out one and walking none.
The Indians accumulated 13 hits in the game. Powell went 1-for-3 at the plate as the outfielder led the team with four runs batted in. Burger went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Southern Fulton in hits. Ward and Mann each collected multiple hits for Southern Fulton.
The Indians will next host Fannett-Metal in the District 5 Semifinals. This game is slated for Thursday, May 23, at 4:30 p.m.
