Fannett-Metal Knocks Off Undefeated Spartans in Extra Innings 

Fannett-Metal(4-3) scored the winning run in the bottom of the 8th inning to record the 7-6 upset victory over McConnellsburg(8-1).  

With one out in the 8th inning junior Broc Hostler ripped a single to centerfield off hard throwing right hander Jackson Clevenger.   Drew Goshorn lined out to center for the second out of the inning.  With two outs and two strikes Hostler was on the move when Jake Coffman connected on a fly ball to left centerfield.  The Spartans defender made a diving attempt at the ball but it skipped behind the defender allowing Hostler to score from first for the dramatic walk off victory.  

The win is the third in a row for the Tigers and moves them to 4-3 on the season.  The Spartans drop to 8-1 on the year.  

The Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th to send the game to extra innings.  In the inning, Goshorn and Coffman reached on back to back walks.  Landon Arnold reached on an infield error to load the bases.  Junior Wade Appleby unleashed a 3 run double to the gap to clear the bases.  Appleby was left stranded at third on back to back strikeouts by Clevenger.  

The Tigers used four pitchers in the game.  Drew Goshorn got the start and went 3.1 innings.  He allowed 3 runs (2ER) on 4 hits and 1 BB.  Noah Naugle and Broc Hostler threw an inning each.  Reliever Logan Hall pitched the final three innings to record the win.  He allowed 2 runs (1ER) on 3 hits.  The Tigers pitchers survived 10 walks in the game.  

The Spartans started right hander Landon Gress.  He pitched five innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits.  He had 5 k and 1 BB.  Kade Gress threw 1.1 innings of middle relief.  He allowed 3 runs (2ER).  Reliever Jackson Clevenger threw 1.1 innings and suffered the loss.  He allowed 1 run on 2 hits and had 3 K.  

Offensively, the Tigers had 11 hits.  Landon Arnold(1RBI) had 3 hits, Appleby(3RBI) and Coffman(1RBI) each had a pair of hits.  Goshorn, Detweiler(1RBI), Hostler and Hammond(1RBI) added one hit each.  Goshorn and Arnold scored a pair of runs.  

Defensively, Tigers center fielder Jake Coffman recorded 7 putouts on the night and threw out a Spartan runner at third.  

Gavin Fowler led the Spartans offensively with a pair of hits.  Reese Alexander cracked a double.  The Spartans had 4 stolen bases and 1 caught stealing in the game.  

The Tigers will return to action on Monday when they host Tussey Mountain at 4:00.
