Deakon Snavely

The opponent: The Crusaders’ only loss came early, 27-20, to State College … MaxPreps ranks them No. 14 in the state (for all classes) … QB Sebastian Williams has put up some big numbers, connecting on 141 of 194 passes (72.7%) for 2,308 yards, 33 TDs and 6 int. … RB Kaedyn Walker has run 95 times for 598 yards and 7 scores … The top-flight receivers include Jontai Quick (42-765, 8 TDs), Jayden Smith (31-655, 12 TDs) and Howard Holton Jr. (32-506, 8 TDs) … Ethan Miller leads the defense with 71 tackles (15.5 for a loss), while Creighton Miltsch has 70 tackles (17.5 for a loss, 6.5 sacks).
Coach’s viewpoint: “They definitely went after Harrisburg last week,” Chambersburg coach Gary Carter said. “There is no doubt they have a strong passing game — the quarterback is accurate and he has three really good receivers to throw to. The freshman running back is pretty good and they have a big line. And it’s typical McDevitt on defense — big and fast and sound. We’re just asking our kids to give the effort and believe they can win. Just focus on yourself. The kids have been playing through some injuries and some kids have been able to come back. The trainers have done a good job of getting them ready to play.”
Unsung: ILB Deakon Snavely: The sophomore linebacker leads the Trojans with 97 tackles … He and his cohorts on defense made 10 tackles for a loss last week vs CD East … Carter said, “He made a lot of good plays last week. That’s a high number of tackles, but (assistant coach) Andy (Stoner) grades them hard, so it’s legit. We did a couple of things about team leaders this year and Snavely, Mason Mowen and Colton Horst took the bull by the horns. They help get everybody in good positions.”
Trojan statistics: Passing — Cam Green 73-for-126 (57.9%), 1,168 yards, 13 TDs, 7 int.; Justin Deneen 52-91 (57.1%), 626, 5 TDs, 0 int. … Rushing — Malachi Tasker 144-436 (3.03 avg.), 3 TDs … Receiving — Jashaun Palmer 30-631, 6 TDs; Lucas Ocker 17-289, 4 TDs; Isaiah Ferguson 14-207, 2 TDs; Tasker 14-156; Seth Gilliam 19-136, 2 TDs … Tackles — Deakon Snavely 97; Gilliam 70; Colton Horst 59; Mason Mowen 49 … Tackles for loss — Snavely 6; Nathan Chambers 6 … Chambersburg rushing per game, 68.7 yards per game; opponents, 113.2 … Trojan passing per game, 210.3 per game; opponents, 102.6 … Chambersburg total yards, 2,511; opponents 1,943 … Turnovers, Chbg 16; opponents 12.

MIDDLETOWN AT GREENCASTLE-ANTRIM
Game data: The Blue Devils host the Blue Raiders at Kaley Field in a Mid Penn Colonial clash on Friday, 7 p.m. … Live stream on MidPennBroadcasting.com.
Last week: Middletown (4-5, 2-4 MPC) clubbed Boiling Springs, 35-7 … Greencastle (5-4, 3-3 MPC) gutted out a 14-9 victory over East Pennsboro … For the District 3 playoffs, Class 4A has 10 teams qualify for the playoffs — Greencastle is currently No. 14 and Middletown is No. 15 in the rankings … For G-A to keep its season going, it will have to beat Middletown and hope a bunch of teams currently above them take losses.

Ethan South

The opponent: QB Harrison Ortiz has completed 124 of 203 passes for 1,531 yards, 13 TDS, and 5 int. … RB Gavin Paul has 136 carries for 795 yards (5.8 avg.) and 10 TDs … Top receivers are James Queen (35-461, 5 TDs) and Genecisia Ross (32-409, 4 TDs) … Jacob Ponraning is the leading tackler with 71 (5.5 for a loss) … G-A coach Jason Thurston said, “Middletown has had some success. Their quarterback throws a good ball and gets the ball out quickly, and they have some good receivers. They play a 4-4 defense and have some athletes on the line. They seem to defend the outside runs really well, so we hope to be able to run up the middle.”
Coach’s viewpoint: Thurston said, “Well, it’s not probable (that we’ll make the playoffs), because we need to win and then have a lot of stars align. So the first thing is win and take care of what we can control, and then see what happens. We’re healthy — we have been really fortunate with injuries this year. But there will be a lot of emotions on Friday night — the playoff situation, we can finish 6-4 even if we don’t make it, it’s Senior Night and we won’t be playing at Kaley Field for a while. So, a lot of emotions.”
Unsung: Ethan South: South is a linebacker and backup running back, but he stood out on special teams last week in the win over East Penn … South punts for the Blue Devils and he booted four punts that backed up the Panthers inside their own 20 … Thurston said, “He did some really nice punting last week. We needed to win the field position game, and four times he put our defense in a good place.”
Blue Devil statistics: Passing — Gavin Logsdon 64-for-129, 754 yards, 6 TDs, 3 int. … Rushing — Spencer Long 99 carries, 660 yards (6.7 avg.), 10 TDs; Landon Kagarise 58-287, 5 TDs … Receiving — Wyatt Hull 19-396, 4 TDs; Long 11-117, 1 TD; Luke Hull 7-72 … Tackles — Elijah Ambrose 52; L.Hull 47; Loki Huffman 38; Dom Angelini 34 … Tackles for loss — Huffman 9; Ben Jansen 9; Zachary Russell 9 … Sacks — Russell 5.5.
