No. 1 seed knocks Blue Devils out of boys soccer playoffs

ROBESONIA — As the No. 16 seed in the District 3 Class 3A boys soccer playoffs, Greencastle-Antrim knew it would face a difficult task in the first round.

Although the Blue Devils played tough for a half, top-seeded Conrad Weiser used a strong second half to register a 6-1 victory Monday night.

The Scouts (21-0-1) will host either York Suburban or Milton Hershey in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

Greencastle coach Ryan Palmer said, “It was only 1-0 at halftime, and our low block (defense) was playing out really well. But, we were really limited with our chances. I decided to open things up in the second half and the team paid for it.”

The Blue Devils scored their only goal in the second half, with Mason DeVaughn finding the net. DeVaughn, a junior, finished the year with 11 goals and 21 assists.

G-A is eliminated with an 11-6-2 record.

“Our guys fought through injuries and adversity all year, playing multiple games down two or three starters,” Palmer said. “In the last 11:36 of the Waynesboro game, these guys showed their character and we will keep building on it.”
