FIELD HOCKEY
Greencastle-Antrim 1, Shippensburg 0: The Greyhounds’ defense kept the Blue Devils off the board until the third period, but that lone goal gave G-A a Mid Penn Colonial victory at Kaley Field on Monday night.
Sydnee Bosko inserted a pass on a penalty corner, and Rowan Shubert was there to produce a hard drive that found the cage for the only goal for Greencastle (10-5, 9-3 MPC).
Blue Devil coach Keara Allshouse said, “It was a hard-fought game. We had some beautiful give-and-go passes as we worked up the field, but their defense and goalie did a good job of shutting down many shots on goal.
“After we scored, we kept our composure and valued possession as we finished out the fourth quarter.”
The cutoff for games counting toward District 3 rankings is Wednesday, when G-A meets Middletown. Greencastle is currently ranked 13th in Class 2A and the top 16 teams qualify.
GIRLS SOCCER
Greencastle-Antrim 1, Boiling Springs 0: The Blue Devils’ defense stayed strong the entire contest and they picked up a Mid Penn Colonial victory over the Bubblers on Monday night on the road.
“It was a tough, hard-fought game against a very good Boiling Springs team,” G-A coach Jonathan Lewis said. “These are the kind of games that make us better as a team.”
Greencastle (7-6-3, 4-5-3 MPC) broke the scoreless tie with a goal by Chloe Parks, with Lily Black earning the assist.
Lewis said, “Games like this come down to effort, discipline and finding a way to get the job done. I’m proud of the girls for battling for 80 minutes, staying organized defensively and doing what it took to come away with a win.”
