GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Trojans’ Quinn wins Mid Penn race: Natalie Quinn roared through the field Saturday afternoon at Gettysburg’s home course and crossed the finish line in first place by 10 seconds at the Mid Penn Conference cross country championships.
The Chambersburg senior clocked a time of 18:09.2 to out-pace State College’s Evelyn Younkin (18:19.2).
Trojan coach Chris Monheim said, “I am beyond proud of Natalie, who ran a near-perfect race to win the title. She hung back behind the leader from State College for the first 2.5 miles, and then took over the race and pulled away for a comfortable victory. She joins an elite class of five Trojans who have won Mid Penn cross country titles.”
Three other Trojans earned all-conference honors by placing within the top 35. They included Lilly Spohn (10th, 19:49.0), Taliya Raber (32nd, 20:28.5) and Bella Rife (34th, 20:29.6). Chambersburg also had Kaylie Savage (58th, 21:22.2), Atlea Pereschuk (68th, 21:29.7) and Maggie Holtry (69th, 21:30.1) in the race.
The Trojans placed third as a team with 132 points, behind State College (48) and Cumberland Valley (86).
Monheim said, “I was really impressed with Raber, who ran a great last half of the race for a personal best. We have two weeks to prepare for districts, where we will definitely have to have our best race this season to qualify for the state championships.”
Waynesboro’s Morgan Jones posted a time of 19:04.8 to place fourth. Avery Russell of Greencastle-Antrim clocked a 20:22.0 for 28th place, and Shippensburg’s Evelyn Jones was 72nd (21:33.3).
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Trojans place 4th at Mid Penns: Chambersburg produced three medalists at the Mid Penn Conference cross country championships on Saturday afternoon at Gettysburg and finished fourth in the team standings.
State College I28), Hershey (42) and Lower Dauphin (127) placed ahead of the Trojans (145).
“This was our first time beating both Mifflin County and Carlisle this season, after they gave us our only two losses, and were ahead of us at some invites,” Chambersburg coach Jim Boyer said. “I’m looking forward to seeing what these guys can do after a couple of weeks of sharpening/fine-tuning and speed training, and then racing on the course at Big Spring for District 3’s meet on Halloween. I’m hoping we’ll be ‘spooky’ fast.”
Boston Vincenti led the Trojan pack by taking 10th place in 16:12.6. Liam Coy (19th, 16:39.4) and Cole Lehman (34th, 17:11.1) were also medalists, while Tobias Willson missed by just one spot (36th, 17:13.0).
Boyer said, “Boston got out quick, running the first mile in 5:00, and was about 15th, but ran inspired and worked his way up to a 10-place finish. With the winds and a soft course, it ran a little slower than two weeks ago (at the Gettysburg Invitational), but Aaron Goshorn still managed to run a lifetime best 5K time (17:36.8).”
Also for Chambersburg, Chase Goshorn was 49th in 17:38.8 and Ben Lin was 56th in 17:46.8.
Greencastle-Antrim had all 5 scorers finish between 60th and 80th — Billy Bender (60th, 17:54.4), Micah Barrett (61st, 17:54.6), Colin Thomas (69th, 18:07.0), Ace Monn (75th, 18:09.2) and Kelson Wenger (80th, 18:18.8).
Nick Snyder of Waynesboro placed 30th (17:03.9) and Shippensburg’s Laim Feather was 45th in 17:32.7.

For the Trojans (8-6-1), Brandon Arana scored the second goal, assisted by Jason Lopez. Cardson Ymonnice found the net after a pass from Landon Djannie, and Wilhelm Smith completed the scoring by bombing in a free kick.
