GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Trojans place 6th: Chambersburg’s girls competed in the prestigious Carlisle Invitational on Saturday and had a good day against top-notch competition.

The Trojans placed sixth as a team with 240 points; Dallastown was first with 86. Natalie Quinn clocked a time of 18:15.5 on the 5000-meter course to place sixth individually.

“I was really pleased with my girls and I believe thay had their best race of the season,” Chambersburg coach Chris Monheim said. “Natalie Quinn backed up last week’s career-best race with a better one today, taking sixth in a loaded field that included some of the best  runners on the East Coast.”

Lilly Spohn posted a time of 19:14.1 to grab 24th place, Taliya Raber was 66th in 20:47.5, Bella Rife ran a 21:01.1 time for 81st, and Kaylie Savage was close behind in 83rd (21:04.0). Maggie Holtry (92nd, 21:19.4) and Atlea Pereschuk (99th, 21:31.2) also competed.

Monheim said, “Lilly Spohn had a major breakthrough race and a huge personal best. I knew she was capable of a race like this and it was good to see her get it done. I thought Taliya Raber had a very strong performance and showed some mental toughness in the last stretch.”

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Trojans finish in 9th: Chambersburg had 18 boys take part in the Carlisle Invitational on Saturday and 11 of them posted a career-best time for a 5000-meter course.

The Trojans placed 9th as a team among 30 teams in the Challenge Division with 275 points. The winner, University High, scored 108.

“Overall, we looked really good for where we are in the season,” Chambersbug coach Jim Boyer said. “Four guys had season-best times and the other three were just short of that.”

Liam Coy turned in the Trojans’ best finish — 32nd, in 16:42.5.

Boyer said, “Liam ran a smartly-paced race to finish as our top runner today. This was his first time running sub-17 and he was just outside of earning a medal.”

Also for Chambersburg, Boston Vincenti (39th, 16:54.3), Cole Lehman (58th, 17:14.1), Tobias Willson (67th, 17:21;0) and Aaron Goshorn (89th, 17:44.0) scored points, while Ben Lin (94th, 17:45.9) and Gavin Wenger (104th, 18:01.4) also raced.

In the JV race, the Trojans’ Chase Goshorn was 2nd (17:44.4) and Alexander Kalathas was 4th (18:17.3).

BOYS SOCCER
State College 2, Chambersburg 1: The Little Lions used a pair of set pieces to knock off the Trojans on Saturday morning in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game in State College.

Despite having the better of play for much of the first half, Chambersburg (4-4, 1-3 MPC) could not get on the scoreboard until the 58th minute, when Deklin Shank assisted a goal by Levi Findley.

Trojan coach Marc Furfaro said, “We looked amazing in the first half and created a ton of opportunities, but we couldn’t finish. State College came out stronger in the second and it was a lot more even. Unfortunately, we gave up two easy set-piece goals in the last 15 minutes of the game.”
