The Southern Fulton Lady Indians battled through a back-and-forth five-set match Monday night, rallying from an early deficit to defeat Berkeley Springs 3-2 in a non-conference road matchup.

Southern Fulton dropped the opening two sets 24-26 and 19-25, but the Indians refused to let the match slip away. They responded with a strong third set, winning 25-19, before taking the fourth set 25-22 to force a decisive fifth set. In the final frame, Southern Fulton controlled the momentum and closed out the match 15-9.

The Indians’ offense was led by Bailey Hull, who recorded a team-high 19 kills while also contributing an impressive nine blocks. Brelyn Reiter added 12 kills, while Avery Bivens finished with 11 kills and four blocks. Kinley Layton, Elsie Murray and Kennedy Hixon each added two kills.

Kennedy Hixon directed the Southern Fulton offense with 30 assists, helping the Indians finish with 48 kills as a team.

Southern Fulton’s serving game also played an important role in the victory. The Indians recorded 11 aces and finished the night at 90.5% from the service line. Layton and Murray led the team with three aces each. Lakyin Hixson led the team in service points, finishing with 16.

Defensively, the Indians came up big when it mattered most. Southern Fulton collected 49 digs, led by Lakyin Hixson with 15 and Kinley Layton with 13. Reiter added nine digs, while Murray contributed four.

At the net, the Indians finished with 16 total blocks, with Hull accounting for nine and Bivens adding four.

After dropping the first two sets, Southern Fulton showed composure and battled its way back, winning three straight sets to secure the 3-2 victory.

Southern Fulton Holds Off Hancock in Competitive 3-1 Match

Sophomore setter Kennedy Hixon helped direct the offense with 37 assists, while also contributing a kill and three digs. Avery Bivens led Southern Fulton with 14 kills,  Bailey Hull and Brelyn Reiter each added 10 kills and Elsie Murray contributed 6. Bivens also finished with three blocks.

At the service line, Elsie Murray led the Indians with four aces, while Bivens added two. Leading in service points was Hull and Reiter with 8, Hixon and Murray with 7 and Layton with 6. 

Defensively, Lakyin Hixson led the team with 12 digs, followed by Hull with 8 and Bivens with 7.  

Southern Fulton battled through a close third set after Hancock extended the match with a 26-24 win, but the Indians responded in the fourth set to close out the 3-1 victory.

Southern Fulton improves to 5-2 for the season and will prepare to take on McConnellsburg in a home conference matchup on Friday, September 25th
