BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Chambersburg 15, Central Dauphin 46: The Trojans buried the Rams by putting their top 5 runners in the first five places to comfortably capture a Mid Penn Commonwealth meet Tuesday afternoon on the home course.

The top 5 included Boston Vincenti (17:38) in first place, Tobias Willson (17:53) in second, Cole Lehman (17:54) in third, Liam Coy (17:54) in fourth and Chase Goshorn (17:56) in fifth.

Gavin Wenger placed eighth in 18:31 and Ben Lin was next in 18:32 for Chambersburg (4-2, 4-2 MPC).

Trojan coach Jim Boyer said, “It was fitting that on Senior Night, two of our seniors took 1-2 and the third senior was the sixth man, so they represented the team well. It was real cross country weather in the cool rain today, but the team showed their knowledge of the home course and their grit to race well.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Chambersburg 15, Central Dauphin 48: The Trojans took care of business with an easy win over the Rams on Tuesday in their only home dual meet of the season, and had their day considerably brightened later.

Carlisle knocked off State College to give the Little Lions their only loss, and it meant that Chambersburg (5-1, 5-1 MPC) and SC are co-champs of the Mid Penn Commonwealth Division.

“We were able to relax our varsity group for part of the race today, and then they worked hard in the second part of the race,” Trojan coach Chris Monheim said. “Out 1-5 gap was smaller than usual (1:38), so that is a good sign. It was nice to see our four seniors (Natalie Quinn, Maggie Holtry, Abby Berger and Zara Ward) race on our home course one more time.”

Chambersburg’s top five included Quinn (1st, 20:31), Lilly Spohn (2nd, 21:14), Bella Rife (3rd, 21:46), Kaylie Savage (4th, 22:05) and Taliya Raber (5th, 22:09), while the next pair were Atlea Pereschuk (7th, 22:12) and Holtry (8th, 22:37).

FIELD HOCKEY
Chambersburg 2, Shippensburg 0: The Trojans produced their second straight win and shutout, defeating the Greyhounds in a Mid Penn Colonial contest Tuesday on the road.

The game remained scoreless until the fourth quarter when Jordan Sprinkle earned a penalty corner for Chambersburg (3-4-1, 3-1-1 MPC). Libby Leonard converted the corner into a goal with a straight-on shot.

The Trojans kept pushing and Reagan Barrett intercepted a pass and went one-on-one with the goalie, who made a tough diving save. But Mia Dortenzo was there to collect the rebound and send it into the cage for an insurance goal.

Shippensburg (3-7-1) pressed for a goal, but Trojan goalie Lacey Mooney made several key saves.

“We had a complete effort from offense to defense,” Chambersburg coach Rachael Sanders said. “We have been working toward this connection all season, and it finally clicked today. We have an extremely talented group of athletes who are hard-working and who pushed to the last minute.”

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
State College 3, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans were competitive in all three games, but couldn’t break through with a win against the Little Lions in a Mid Penn Commonwealth matchup Tuesday night at the CASHS Field House.

SC won games of 25-21, 25-19 and 28-26.

“Despite the loss, our girls never quit,” Chambersburg coach Ty Frelin said. “And they never gave up. State College is a solid team that doesn’t make many mistakes. They do all the right things and you have to play a great match to beat them.”

Grace Myers (12) and Kyle Perry (10) split the assists for the Trojans (4-3, 2-2 MPC), while Kasey Moser (15), Lizzy Porter (14) and Lexi Poe (12) led the Trojans in digs.

Perry and Poe each collected 10 service points, Maddie Rydbom and Olivia Shearer each came up with 2 blocks, and in kills, Moser led with 12 and Shearer added 7.

Mid Penn tournament: The Mid Penn Conference postponed its golf championship on Tuesday. It will now be held next Tuesday, starting at 9 a.m. at Range End.
