Chambersburg 2, Greencastle-Antrim 1: Maddie Mills tallied a pair of goals inside the final 10 minutes of the game and the Trojans rallied to beat the Blue Devils in a non-league game at Kaley Field on Thursday night.

G-A’s Sadie Burns scored the first goal, knocking in a loose ball after a corner kick taken by Lily Black as the Blue Devils (3-2) had the advantage in play in the first half.

Greencastle coach Jonathan Lewis said, “I thought we dominated the first half and went ahead late in the first half. We had a ton of chances, but their goalkeeper (Ashley Mitchell) was up for the task today. She played a great game.”

Mills scored her first goal with about 10 minutes left when she found a pocket of space just outside the 18 and was able to put her shot over the keeper  to tie the score.

With three minutes left in regulation, Marley Onomastico played Mills in behind the Blue Devil defense and she finished the goal by slotting it past the keeper to lift the Trojans (2-4) to the win.

Greencastle-Antrim 5, Bermudian Springs 1: Five different players hit the back of the net Thursday evening in York Springs to carry the Blue Devils to a non-league victory over the Eagles.

For Greencastle (5-1-1), goals were tallied by Logan Andou, Caleb Noll, Landon Palmer, Blaine Martin and Carlos Reyes.

G-A coach Ryan Palmer said, “Bermudian had a ton of energy and never quit, but we played a great team game tonight.”

FIELD HOCKEY
Greencastle-Antrim 1, Shippensburg 0, OT: The Blue Devils pulled out a Mid Penn Colonial win over the Greyhounds on Thursday night at Kaley Field on a Rowan Shubert goal in overtime.

Neither team was able to score in regulation, but when the teams went to 7 v 7 in overtime, Serenity Goodman of Greencastle (4-2, 3-1 MPC) made a pass that Shubert whacked into the cage to win the game.

“We kept our composure under the pressure of overtime and rallied to get the win,” G-A coach Keara Allshouse said. “The team emergy was contagious during overtime; it was amazing.

“Goodman and (Caroline) Barnes, both middies, were everywhere tonight, while Emma Stouffer stepped up on defense many times to help distriute the ball.”

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 3, West Perry 1: After spotting the Mustangs a win in the opener, the Blue Devils roared back to claim the final 3 games and collect a Mid Penn Colonial win on the road Thursday night.

West Perry won 25-20, and G-A picked up wins of 25-22, 25-14 and 25-21.

Jordyn Wagner was a menace at the net for the Blue Devils (4-3, 3-1 MPC), blasting her way to 18 kills, while adding 2 blocks. She took 43 kill attempts and connected on 41.9% of them. Chloe Young had 7 kills and a pair of blocks, while Hayden Baer had 6 kills, along with 15 service points and 3 aces.

Kira Johnson put up some big numbers with 29 assists, 10 points and 5 of her team’s 15 aces. Also for G-A, Alex Seville had 6 digs, Scarlett Norton and Avery Watson each had 5 digs and Terryn Bard had 8 assists.

Blue Devils qualify for MPC team event: Three Greencastle players will compete in the Mid Penn Tournament next week at Range End and the Blue Devils will also compete as a team in the event.

On Thursday, in a qualifier tournament at Manada, Jex McDowell shot an 80 to ie for 7th place, which earned a spot in the Mid Penn event by being in the top 10. Other G-A scores Thursday were Bryce Wilhide (82), Landon Summers (83) and Jaxson Sobol (90).

“I was proud of how all my guys who competed today played,” Blue Devil coach Jeremy Eby said. “We qualified for the team competition, so we get to play our top three plus two more and try to win the team title.”

Two Greencastle players — Camden Eby and Bryce Davidson — had already qualified for Mid Penns by finishing in the top 40 by average score in the regular season. Eby was in 21st place with his average of 78.6 and Davidson was in 39th place with an 80.6 average.
